"Just do it!" Nike made the slogan famous, but maybe it glued to our brains because we practical, pioneering and sometimes rash Americans already have the inkling to act NOW.
But when inviting someone to step into the open arms of God, much to our chagrin, we can't make them just do it.
*Eileen has been knocking on the same brothel doors in London's fashionable Soho disctrict for the last 17-plus years. The Swiss missionary visits 60 apartments at least once a month each, introducing herself to new women, and offering practical and emotional help, and prayer on her second or third visits. As they begin to trust her, she forms friendships with the women and the maids who work in the flats.
Perseverance and obedience to God's call to reach these women is key, because visible results are few. "You have to be aware you're there for God, sometimes only [in their lives] for a short season, to plant the seeds and somebody else will water them," says Eileen.
"I've asked God if there's another way to produce quicker salvation and results," she says. Each time she asks, God shows her a picture of two hands holding a big heart. 'Show them my heart,' He says."
